DECONSTRUCTED PORTRAITS
Lesson Description: 6th grade students created two portraits using cardboard and clay. Students went through steps to identify the features of their face to break them down into layers that could then be cut out of cardboard. Students then transferred their knowledge to create a one day portrait made out of clay. Students could alter features in either portrait that could exaggerate or distort. |

Artists experiment with materials by deconstructing and putting them back together to create art. Artists express their emotions by altering the shape of their facial features. Artists create self portraits in various materials to analyze and research process. |
