Stanadard 5:
Teachers demonstrate leadership.
These two examples represent Element A and B of Teacher Quality Standard 5.Element A is teacher demonstrate leadership in their schools. The graphic organizer above was for a district art department meeting I attended. I was asked to present a Pecha Kucha talk and how it could be used in the art classroom. This pushed me continue developing my professional skills as well as finding inovative ways to demonstrate learning in the clasroom. My resume is also an example of this because it shows my involvement with various education programs and my knowledge of art through various modes (curtor, artist, education). |
Conclusion:
Being able to analyze and reflect on a semester's worth of practice and work has helped me identify areas of improvement. The two standards I am developing on are Standard 1 and 3. Standard 1 is , teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach. As a teacher candidate this is the area that needs the most work because there is a lot to learn about my content and how to teach it. Being able to assess time, age, space, and materials is something I plan on working on so I can create a diverse learning environment. Standard 3 is teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students. I am finding new ways to teach art because everyone learns in different ways; I struggle specifically in this part because I tend to teach the way I learn best. Pushing myself to research and try out new methods is how I wil be able to help all students succeed. My data analysis is one way to reflect on my teaching and how it can improve. What I saw in the data, which was mostly expected to high scores, was that I gave the quiz too late. I know this because if I would of given it after the first soldering demo, most of the students would of had low scores. Timing this quiz and demos is what I need to work on. Done properly it could of lead to a more in depth knowledge of soldering that was based on an understanding of the process along with practice. Continously reflecting on my work is a neccesary part of teaching and will help me consider new strategies to implement in the classroom. EDUC 450 began to open new thought processes about teaching, which were especially needed while doing practicum in Laura Cronen's jewelry class. Like stated earlier, having a chance to work alongside an experienced teacher that also gives me room to try out new things and make mistakes has helpe grow tremendously. Being able to reflect on my beginning of the semester ideas compared to know shows my growth and commitment to this career. Though I am still scared for student teaching I know that theses strategies will be useful throughout next semester.
