Art II: Rebel Arts
This lesson was broken into two parts; individual and collaborative. Students learned about various contemporary artists and their involvement in social issues. Students create art on cardboard representing issues important to them. they also collaborated with classmates on zine publications that integrated research, art. and social justice. Art Exploration : Deconstructed Portraits
6th graders went through various processes to identify and breakdown the layers in their face to create portraits using accessible materials like cardboard. Students were able to focus on realistic, abstracted, or distorted portraits. For the second part of the project, they created small scale ceramic slab portraits that focused on their main features through the use of layering and textures. |
Students in a mixed grade pottery class learned hand building techniques through creating slab mugs. Students were given choice on surface design using underglazes, glazes, sgraffito and other techniques.
